Q: WHO is Georgia Alley?
First of all it’s George Alley, lady. Georgia Alley has too many open vowel sounds, it provokes something visceral. George Alley is an experimental pop singer, the creative director and choreographer of George Alley/Ink Dance, the co-host of the comedy podcast “I’m going to Kill You!”, and an arts advocate and educator.
Q: WHAT is your philosophy of beauty?
Ignore everyone else’s philosophies on beauty.
Q: WHO is your biggest inspiration in your work?
I was raised by a family of aesthetes, and all of my close friends are talented people. I have worked with and been taught by so many talented artists in the past 30 years. I’ve been lucky really that so many talented people have taken an interest in me. It’s these people that have helped formulate my ideas about how I view and create art.
Q: TELL me more about the origin of Alley Ink?
After I graduated from the MFA choreography program at Temple University, I was depressed and bored by most contemporary dance pieces I saw, especially in Philadelphia and New York. It made me not want to dance at all. So I decided to promote my own dances since they weren’t pieces of shit.
Q: What's new @ Alley Ink?
I just premièred a new dance “Curl Up and Dye” in the huge Laskhmi Hair Studio in Philadelphia, where my amazing company dancers: Michael Keeler, Carolyn Merritt and Julia Crawford and Alyssa Lee had their hair dyed and styled throughout the piece by stylists for First Friday, we sold out and had sixty or so people watching from the street! Because of the amazing response we’ve been asked to reproduce this show for the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, in late August. I’m also working with the amazing Alyssa Lee of Group A on presenting our triptych of dance works that we have created over the past 5 years as an evening length show in Ohio for later this year.
Q: ARE you a tranny?
Yes. I am He-Man’s twin sister and defender of the Crystal Castle.
Q: WHAT are the hot colors/shades for Summer?
I like and design in every color, my preference depends on the quality of the dye and fabric. That being say, I think grey has been over-used of late, and too much black feels very 1998. Fashion-wise it’s important to recognize how colors look on you. I would love to wear yellow and gray but they look horrible on my very Lebanese skin palate. I accent the olive undertones to my skin by wearing jewel tones especially a lot of fuchsia with black, white and gold jewelry.
Q: WHAT do you find ugly about 2010?
Well When I was 10. I thought Kenny Rodgers owned Kentucky Fried Chicken and I thought it was overly ambitious of him to also perform songs with Dolly Parton.
The ugliest things about 2010 are gay people that are obsessed with Lady Gaga, uptight mid level management, the destruction of video rental shops, and all these ugly and ill-placed tattoos I see on people.
Q: WHO are you listening to RIGHT NOW?!
Well, RIGHT NOW I’m in the amazing Café De Laos a subdued Laotian restaurant in South Philadelphia; so I’m listening to two couples in their seventies discuss the benefits of owning a cat and what other restaurants they should visit this summer.
If you by RIGHT NOW you mean TODAY, I’ve listened to 30 children sing “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong and the audio book of “My Life With My Sister Madonna.”
If you mean generally what I’ve been listening to lately: I’m obsessed with making sounds that are so loud like it makes your clothes move. I’ve been listening to Throbbing Gristle, Fad Gadget, Lemon Kittens as well as the usual suspects: Boy George and Dead or Alive.
Q: WHO is your favorite artist?
It depends on who I am at the moment. I will say I love every dance piece I have ever seen Michael Clark choreograph, and Pete Burns is probably my favorite Pop Icon of them all.
Q: WHO is your favorite architect?
Noah, because he worked in cubits. biblical scientists have shown there was more than amicable room available on the arc and I need a lot of room to store my all Westwood clothing, mid century furniture and dance moves and also because I love cocktail cruises.
Q: WHO is your favorite musician?
I’m into all those avant-garde 80’s pop stars, but I’m also really into me.
Q: WHO is your favorite designer?
Vivienne Westwood, she is the only lifestyle brand that I would happily buy into. She is punk. Punk is not this bullshit mall walking spit in your face pretend you have no money thing. That’s all down market. I'm becoming increasingly fascinated by Riccardo Tisci's work for Givenchy. I need a backless sweater for my trip to Maine this summer. But to be completely honest give me something that didn’t come from the mall and has a plunging neckline and I’ll wear it.

Glamour of the Week : Irving Penn
Monday night I had the privilege to listen to Anna Wintour (Editor of Vogue) speak about the beloved photographer Irving Penn. Penn was the photographer for Vogue Magazine for decades. He passed away recently and Anna came to speak to us at The Pratt Institute about his work. Everyone perceives Anna as being austere. At the end of her talk about her friendship and collaborations with Penn, you could sense the emotion building up and a tear come to her eyes. she was real.
Penn's body of work is incredibly beautiful. I urge everyone to do a little research.

My philosophy on beauty ...hmmmm...I appreciate what people commonly consider beauty...but personally I am more attracted to the off beat beauty in things, I see the beauty in an old building with graffiti, or a piece of clothing that is old and ripped up...pretty much everything is beautiful if you really look.

MAO PR started 12 years ago...Roger and I started it because we had so many young designer friends who were not able to get into press showrooms in NYC because press showrooms back then would not work with an unknown designer. So we decided to take them on as we love to work with the more creative and new talent that comes to us and get them the press and exposure that they deserve.
Q: What's new @ MAO?
Q: When is the new MAO MAG coming out?
We are no longer doing MAO MAG...because of MAO MAG we were asked by Rizzoli to start doing books, so now we are under contract with Rizzoli to do books so it is an extension of MAO MAG that will reach more people around the world and be here forever! Our first book was The Stephen Sprouse Book...and it came out in 2009.

HAHAHA...depends who you ask...but no I'm not... I love tranny's though, many of my friends are tranny's and I am attracted to them because they are trying to achieve an illusion that is an image of what they consider beauty...and I find that fascinating.

Clubs with bottle service...so tacky...why pay $250 for a bottle of vodka that is $40 and people nowadays seem to think that if they buy bottle service that others in the club will think that they are kool and important and at the end of the day I think people need to find a different way to show that.
